This post by Matt Honan of Giz fame was absolutely refreshing to read. After all the mud-slinging, between Arrington, MG, Dan Lyons, and countless others, it’s a breathe of fresh air to see some love being tossed around for a change. In the name of St. Valentine, I hope that this continues.
Like Sarah Lacy says, the Golden Age of tech blogging is far from over – if anything, it is just the start of something new. As tech blogs spring up everywhere to take on new and exciting perspectives on the ever-changing world of tech, ranging from gadget-focused sites such as The Verge to analytic thought pieces on the industry from Sarah’s PandoDaily, there is something for everyone.
The real question for avid readers such as me becomes how the heck do I keep up with it all?
I hope to see more of this celebratory writing for the tech (blogging) world, as it has made the world of industry, business, entrepreneurship, and all things tech accessible to the masses – people such as myself who would otherwise be spending time on other things (and possibly being more productive).
In fact, I really have sites, particularly (old) TechCrunch, to thank for my interest in entrepreneurship, and I hope to bring this spirit with me as I transition deeper into academia in pursuit of my Ph.D.
Thanks Matt once again for sharing the love, and I hope to see a little more of that in the tech world. But not too much – it just wouldn’t be as exciting without the strong opinions of people such as MG and Arrington, and especially those that set them off (I’m looking at you, Dan Lyons).
Happy Valentine’s Day!
[...] Erick, I’m calling you out here as a loyal reader – give us a proper post about where TC is going so that your community can decide whether to give TC a proper goodbye and stop following along. Take a page from your former compatriots MG/Mike and be upfront for once. And instead of hiding behind your new hires, celebrate what TC once was, and give those that deserve it the proper goodbyes they deserve – I know there’s probably some bad blood, but how about taking a page from Paul, and congratulating a fellow writer for their accomplishments, or heck, spreading the love all around even?
